I offer individual counseling services for adult clients across the state of Georgia. Depending on your preference, I can see clients both in-person as well as online. While I work with clients with a variety of concerns, I specialize in trauma (religious, sexual, and childhood), anxiety, boundaries, women's issues, and more. There is no one size fits all approach to therapy, so I like to tailor my approach to fit my client's unique needs. Here are a few of the clinical theories I use to guide my practice: EMDR, IFS, Narrative, DBT and Polyvagal Theory/Nervous System Work.
I offer virtual and in-person consultations for mental health professions, church staff, etc. who are looking to learn more about mental health, trauma, church hurt, creating a safe church, and purity culture recovery. I offer consultations for individuals or small groups. For large groups, I recommend booking a speaking engagement.
I am frequently asked if I am a Christian Counseling. The answer is yes and no. My faith is very important to me, but it is not how I provide therapy. I firmly believe in the use of evidence-based treatment because research shows it to be the most effective form of therapy, and I have certainly seen this in my practice. I happily welcome clients of all belief systems and will never force my personal beliefs on you. How much or how little we focus on faith and spirituality during our sessions is always entirely up to the client.
I am currently booking speaking engagements for 2025 on topics related to mental health and faith including Purity Culture Recovery, Church Hurt, Church Safety, & Deconstruction, Healthy Christian Sexuality, and more! For more information, please contact me.
Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) is a type of empirically based treatment that involves using bilateral stimulation (like taps or eye movements) to produce healthy processing for a negative event. The bilateral stimulation yields similar results as REM, which is where the brain integrates information during sleep. By stimulating this type of processing in the brain while awake, clients are able to more rapidly and intentionally process negative events in a healthy way. Put simply, EMDR is a catalyst for the brain healing itself.
Negative experiences can create a “block” in the brain that limits healthy processing. We have to remove that block in order for us to return to healthy or adaptive processing. For example, we have to remove a splinter in order for our body to begin to heal. EMDR is effective in treating past negative experiences, current triggers or stressors, and future concerns. While it was developed for trauma, it is helpful in treating a variety of concerns including anxiety, depression, grief, phobias, etc. To learn more, check out this video.
Religious trauma can be defined as a religious experience that may have caused harm to someone's physical, emotional, sexual, or spiritual health and safety. This is such a hard thing to navigate as it can cause a crisis of faith, relational difficulties, feeling isolated, etc. It can be difficult to know where to turn because survivors often feel a lot of self -doubt and helplessness. As a Certified Religious Trauma Specialist, I care deeply about providing a safe space for those who may have experienced religious trauma or feel that they need to process negative religious experiences.
I would like to note that I am not anti-religion; this is sadly sometimes a misconception about therapists who work with religious trauma. I believe personally and professionally that religion can be a healthy, beautiful thing. Therapy for religious trauma is about validating the experiences of survivors and providing a safe space for them to heal from the harm that was done to them through unhealthy individuals or groups in the name of religion.
As women, we can often feel the pressure from our lives take a toll on our physical and mental health. The big and little traumas we experience add up and live in our bodies, and we can often feel like we can’t take care of ourselves because we have too much to do. But the truth is that not dealing with the impact of stressors and trauma is not only not sustainable, research shows it can lead to feelings of numbness and depression, relationships issues, and significant physical health concerns. It’s time to give yourself permission to take care of yourself! I love coming alongside women and helping them feel empowered and find healing and inner peace. Some of the women’s issues I see are concerns pertaining to motherhood, sexual concerns, relationship concerns, Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders, infertility, pregnancy loss, etc.
