Therapy for moms in Sandy Springs

Is motherhood not what you thought it would be?

You feel like you can’t win because there will always be people who judge you for your choices as a mom, maybe even yourself. You are being pulled in so many different directions.

Maybe you’re a new mom experiencing postpartum anxiety and depression, and you’re scared to admit how you feel. Maybe you’ve got little ones who you adore, but you feel your patience wearing thin. Or maybe you’re a mom of teens who is trying to find the balance between protecting your kids and letting them learn for themselves. No matter what stage of motherhood you are in, it is a beautiful and terrifying adventure.

Motherhood can feel full of contradictions. You grieve your old life, but you wouldn’t change anything. You feel so much purpose in being a mom, but you feel you’ve lost direction for yourself.  You’re surrounded by family, but you feel so alone. You’re exhausted and need rest, but you don’t want to miss a single moment. You have lost so much, but you have gained so much.

Being a mom today looks different than it did for our parents. You may not have the same “village” they did to lean on. The weight of the mental load and expectations can feel suffocating, and you know something has to change.

Even with all the complexities of motherhood, you can find space for you while being present with your kids. The mom you want to be is already part of the woman you are.

what therapy for moms looks like

We will explore who you are and what you want as a mom. By reconnecting with yourself, you will feel a new sense of identity and the ability to see that you are worth prioritizing. You can regain your autonomy and confidence in your ability to make your own choices.

We’ll use somatic (body) therapy to help you learn to regulate your nervous system and feel connected to your body. This will help you feel more grounded and like a weight has been lifted. You will be able to more calmly and confidently navigate the challenges of motherhood without feeling like everything is a constant struggle.

In our time together, our goal is to leave you feeling like you don’t have to carry it all and having a more compassionate view of yourself. We’ll get you to a place where you feel like you can celebrate the wins and not let the challenges define you. You can finally be the mom you want while still leaving room for you.

FAQs

going deeper with motherhood

Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders (PMADs)

If you are consistently feeling sad, on edge, numb, or anxious after having a baby, it may not be just the baby blues. You may be experiencing a PMAD. Most people think of postpartum depression when they think of postpartum concerns, but actually the most common is postpartum anxiety. PMADs can show up in a variety of ways, and they all have their own real challenges. Many women can struggle with thinking they “shouldn’t” be feeling this way, but no one chooses this. I want you to know it’s not your fault, and you are not a bad mom. No matter what kind of intense or scary thoughts or feelings you are experiencing, I will hold a secure, nonjudgmental space for you. Don’t wait for things to get better. Your health and wellbeing matter, and you deserve the support you need to start feeling better.

Infertility & Pregnancy Loss

The journey to motherhood is not always joyful or easy, but many women feel like they can’t talk openly about the pain they endure along the way. You may feel like others don’t understand what you’re feeling or that you need to justify the feeling of loss you’re experiencing. Your feelings are real, and they are valid. You may feel like you are going through an identity crisis, financial and relational strain, shame and guilt, and profound helplessness. The emotional toll can feel all consuming and isolating, but you should not have to go through this alone. I would love to hold space for your grief, provide support for your relationships, and empower you to advocate for yourself.
